African Queen is a 12 – 20 ounce, pink beefsteak with excellent flavor. It was one of our most popular OP/heirloom tomatoes last year.

As shown in the photo above, African Queen can produce an amazing set of fruit – these are greenhouse plants grown in 5 gallon containers. Ironically, plants grown outside during the next season (summer of 2011) had very poor fruit set and the production was very low compared to the two previous years.

There are quite a few variations of ‘Amazon Chocolate’ being distributed – it seems the original seed source wasn’t stable. Our version of ‘Amazon Chocolate’ is a 8-14 oz. regular leaf and has been consistent for the two years we have grown it. Great flavor and one of the best at our 2011 San Diego trial garden. There still could be variation in this version so I don’t recommend it if you only have room for one black tomato. But well worth trying if you have space and love black tomatoes.

Ananu is a red medium sized salad tomato. Resistant to the common root knot nematode, fusarium wilt, gray leaf spot and one strain of spotted wilt virus. It is also tolerant to tobacco mosaic virus. Developed for disease resistance and named after Bill Anahu by the Kamehameha graduate’s former teacher, UH breeder Dr. Jim Gilbert. The WWII fighter pilot was killed in action during the war.

Recommended for humid, warm climates. Average flavor.

Also, similar to Healani.

The flavor is as complex as the beautiful colors and it is one of Steve’s favorite heirlooms.
Ananas Noire first appeared in a Pineapple tomato patch and was stabilized by Pascal Moreau, a horticulturist in Belgium.
